THE RALEIGH VAGINA MONOLOGUES
NOTE: show is sold out, but come by at 12:00 midnight to see the bands/DJs, and hang out
Tickets: $10, http://www.raleigh-vm.org
The Raleigh Vagina Monologues are coming!!!
10pm @ Kings Barcade
If you've seen it - you know. If you haven't - you need to.
The Raleigh Vagina Monologues is a production of Eve Ensler's world- reknowned play by the same name. A group of local women, myself included, will be performing this play as a benefit for the Raleigh Planned Parenthood. It's a compilation of stories about women and their relationships with their vaginas.
From the vday.org website: "The power of "The Vagina Monologues" around the world is its ability to galvanize, enlighten, inspire a sense of self and activism, and communicate issues that are often difficult to articulate or hear. The play allows audiences to immerse in topics that are otherwise taboo, silenced by the media, stifled by the mind that does not want to contend with such painful or personal images about ourselves or others."
The goal of the Raleigh Vagina Monologues is to empower young women in the Raleigh area. In so doing, we chose the Planned Parenthood's local education programs, which work to give teens in Raleigh the medically accurate information they need to make smart and healthy choices about their sexuality. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to charity. Questions?-hit me up.
Bring yo'self! You're sure to laugh a lot, learn a lot, and support a great, local cause!
After the show, a show!: The Ex-Members with Athens Boys Choir and DJ Fancypants & DJ Sneakers.

MOVIE NIGHT
- 'SECOND TUESDAY' DOCUMENTARY NIGHT
***FREE***
"Dancing with the Incas"
This extraordinary film documents the most popular music of the Andes -- Huayno music -- and explores the lives of three Huayno musicians in a contemporary Peru torn between the military and the Shining Path guerrillas. (more below)
Food provided, Discussions facilitated, *Positive* Revolution Encouraged
The film shows how ancient Incan music passed down through the centuries has a contemporary life of its own in the cities of Peru. Lima on Sundays is alive with Huayno music, in which one hears authentic Inca melodies performed on every conceivable type of instrument. In the moody lyrics, the musings of oppressed people assume an existential and timeless quality even when a carnival atmosphere prevails. This is one of the few ethnographic films that deals with complex issues of cultural mixture. Rather than focusing on a single community or ethnic group, the film investigates a broad cultural region and illustrates what happens to it as it confronts the commercial traditions and demands of the West. 58 min. Color. 1992
